The Growing GREAT program in 2016

The Growing GREAT program continued and expanded in 2016 in Bucharest, but especially countrywide.  In addition to the counties of Timiş, Cluj, Buzău, Iaşi, Brăila, Braşov, Prahova, Sibiu, Suceava, Vâlcea, Alba, the project started in 13 other counties: Ilfov, Argeş, Bacău, Bihor, Dâmboviţa, Dolj, Galaţi, Harghita, Hunedoara, Mureş, Neamţ, and Vrancea.

The implementation of the program in the counties varied depending on the capacity and availability of the local coordinator – who is also a volunteer – on the number of volunteers registered and on the General Directorates of Social Assistance and Child Protection’s willingness to collaborate.  The child protection institutions appreciated the results of the volunteers and all collaborations extended annually.

The Growing GREAT program was nominated in some of the most important NGO galas and in 2016, it also received acknowledgement from the Minister of Labor, which recommended child protection institutions to collaborate in the program.

In Bucharest, services grew increasingly more adjusted to children’s needs – vocational training, vocational counselling, outings focused on ability improvement, speech therapy, themed workshops.  In addition to the initial trainings, volunteers also participated in trainings and themed workshops that helped them in their activity with children.
