We work in particular with children from state foster care centers, who suffered traumas following institutionalization, abandonment or separation from their families. These children are simply wonderful and have a great potential that they are often not even aware of. They go to normal or special schools and unfortunately, because of their background or life stories, many of them have less skills and knowledge than other children in the same age group.
The program includes over 2.000 children and youth aged between 3 and 20 from foster centers, day care centers, emergency foster care centers, social apartments and foster maternal homes, social after schools, associations and private foundations for children in difficult situations. We work in partnership with DGASPC (General Directorates for Child Protection and Social Assistance) in Bucharest (Sectors 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6) and 25 counties (Arad, Argeş, Bacău, Brăila, Bihor, Botoşani, Braşov, Buzău, Constanţa, Cluj, Dâmboviţa, Dolj, Galaţi, Harghita, Hunedoara, Gorj, Iaşi, Ilfov, Mureş, Neamţ, Prahova, Sibiu, Suceava, Timiş, Vrancea).
Volunteers also benefit from working with institutionalized children, as they become more able to connect to people from underprivileged environments and more motivated to help them in the future and bring new volunteers in this struggle.
